Liu Yao: a reading for one matter

Liu Yao builds a six-line hexagram around one concrete question. The lines, their changes and the casting day and month help a traditional reader compare what supports a matter, what constrains it and what may need time to become available.

What you need

Keep one matter in mind and choose your current city. One click generates all six three-coin tosses, records the local casting time and gives your reading. You can write down your question if you wish; birth details are not required. The reading focuses on your position in the matter.

What the result covers

See your hexagrams, changing lines and a short reading without an account. A free account saves this same cast to your private history and opens the full interpretation: Self and Response, Na Jia, Six Relatives, Six Spirits, hidden roles, calendar influences and their reasoning. The method covers all 64 hexagrams and eight palaces.

City data: GeoNames (CC BY 4.0)

Choose the city where you are now, rather than your birthplace. We use it to record the local casting time and calculate the reading.

You can leave this blank and keep one matter in mind. The default reading focuses on your position in that matter (Self).

How this reading is made

Your current city sets the local casting time used to calculate the day and month relationships. Birth details are not needed.

We independently toss three online coins for each of six lines, building from the bottom upward. A solid line is yang; a broken line is yin. Changing lines turn into their opposite in the changed hexagram.

The usual reading focuses on your position in the matter (Self). Writing a question keeps it with the record; the wording does not automatically select a subject role or alter the random cast.

Our selected method

This tool uses Jing Fang's eight-palace Na Jia arrangement with the element-led conventions described in Zeng Shan Bu Yi. The day changes at local midnight; the month changes at the actual Jie solar-term instant. This differs from schools using a 23:00 day boundary. Changed-side Six Relatives keep the original palace as their reference. Six Spirits add symbolic context; they never decide the reading by themselves.

A concrete question about a document, resource, appointment or your position is easier to read than a request for a whole-life verdict. Relationship questions need a clear subject; a cast cannot confirm someone else's intentions. No AI service fills gaps or invents an outcome. Use real-world evidence for consequential health, legal, financial or safety decisions.
